Sarah Frazier
by Sigrid Wynne-Evans     © February 2005

Item 1183
Celtic Dragon, item # 1183
Sarah calls herself a "child of the 60's". She grew up in the Washington DC area and migrated west with the hippie movement. Sarah now lives in northern New Mexico with her husband and son. Sarah works as a LPN in an Emergency Room. This is a high stress job to be sure. Creating beadwork is one activity that helps Sarah keep her sanity.

Sarah is a long time beader, having started in the 60's with stringing and doing some loom work. She has not taken any formal beading or art classes, but has been influenced by her beading friends: Mary Tafoya, Linda Breyer, Janet Francis, and Chris Prussing.

Doing "her own thing" has been the force behind Sarah's creativity. Designing her own patterns is a natural extension. Sarah was happy to join bead-patterns.com since she saw the site as a wonderful opportunity. Here, she offers many charming patterns including a charted reindeer, eagle, and some wonderful pins using cabochon faces.

Sarah says that she has two pieces she is most proud. One is "Mushroom Shaman of Tasili", which is a large embroidered piece done in 18-24/0 beads. This piece won a Judge's Choice award at the 1999 Embellishment "Gleaming Treasures" contest. The other piece she is particularly proud of is a vest with bead embroidery. There are two pieces on the back of the vest, one is a panel depicting the phases of the moon, and the other is a large dragon.

Sarah has a small room dedicated to her beads, and a computer. When she uses a program for designing, she uses "Bead Plan". As for what her sources of inspiration are, she says that her dreams are her most influential sources lately. Beadwork is a form of meditation to Sarah. It helps her clear her mind. Her biggest joy in designing is her ongoing interest in learning how to work with color. I think that her bracelet pattern "Fun with Color Theory" (item 932) is a beautiful testament to Sarah's playfulness with color. I know I love this one; it is bold, and exciting, as much of Sarah's work is.
