by Sigrid Wynne-Evans
Aurora began beading as a teen in the 60's and 70's. After a period of time away from the beads, she was inspired to pick them up again after she saw someone beading during a Craft Show. Designing came out of necessity for Aurora, since she began beading during a time where there were very few bead books available, and those that were available were on technique and very few patterns. All forms of art are sources for Aurora's designs, as are vintage jewelry. Play and experimentation also are important. Designing gives Aurora a special satisfaction because it is faster than beading! Click on an image to view the pattern.
![]() To date, Aurora says that the pieces she is most proud of are her oval netted amulet bag, her tiny 3-D roses, and a crochet amulet bag covered in loops of purple iris beads. Aurora liked to use Bead Plan, which no longer exists. Now she is using Bead Cellar along with Paint Shop Pro and Microsoft Publisher 2000. Aurora published "The Beadaholic Quarterly" from 1995 until 2000. It was a very nice informative publication that I missed when it stopped. Maybe with some luck she will start it again. ![]() Aurora has not had it easy. If anyone knows hardship and what it means to having to fight to beat the odds, she does. Aurora suffered from cancer that the physicians told her would beat her. She struggled through a multitude of treatments, bad doctors and experiences that would make you shake your head. Then, just as all was looking up, she sadly lost her husband last July, 2004. Her experiences certainly test the human spirit. Even with all she endured, she remains upbeat and positive. ![]() Aurora's words of inspiration for beaders are: "Don't get too frustrated, ask for help, use books, videos and classes to learn from. I am always pleased when I come up with something no one else has done yet (that I know of)." Click on an image to view the pattern.
