Peggy Wright AKA Ruby Wings Designs by Sigrid Wynne-Evans   Peggy Wright's designs are classically elegant. They are the type of necklaces, earrings, and bracelets you would expect to find in high end sophisticated boutiques. Her choice of colors is equally sophisticated. The gradation of colors she uses is subtle and very pleasing. Adding to Peggy's choice of colors, her shapes and form add to the overall elegance of her work. Here is Peggy's story:

"I have been creating beadwork for about seventeen years. Prior to that time, I wove, knitted, crocheted, and embroidered as an outlet for my artistic energy. I have lived in St. Paul, Minnesota since 1974,and about 1990, I began studying beading with Diane Fitzgerald, a nationally known teacher who lives in Minneapolis. I since have studied with other nationally known instructors, including David Chatt, Nan C. Meinhardt, Joyce Scott, and Cynthia Rutledge."

"In late 2001, I was laid off from my consulting position as a technical and training writer at 3M. Since jobs were scarce, I decided to teach beading in my home, and I discovered that I love teaching. In June and September 2002, I began teaching beading at two stores in the metropolitan area of Minneapolis-St. Paul."

"Of course, to teach, I also needed to start designing my own beadwork. Like many artists, I had to overcome fears about my ability to create original work. I have found it to be a two-step process:
     1.  Showing up to design.
     2.  Allowing myself to work through the period when nothing seems to be working.
I now know that the struggle is part of the process, and usually, something really amazing happens if I just keep working."

"My primary love in beading is color, and you will find that effective use of color is an important element in everything I do. I love playing with color, and I design everything with the intent of giving my students the opportunity to do so."

"In March 2003, I started working three-quarters-time for a nonprofit organization that serves persons with serious and persistent mental illness. I now am the Communications and Development Director. I write and edit our newsletter and annual report, write marketing materials and grant proposals, and participate in other fundraising activities.

In October 2003, I taught beading nationally for the first time at Bead Fest near Philadelphia. I also have taught at The Bead and Button Show in Milwaukee."

"I have been creating beading kits since 2002. My background as a technical writer gives me a great advantage in writing instructions. About a year and a half ago, I decided to put these instructions on Bead-patterns.com as another way to help people find my work."

"In late 2004, I made a proposal to teach a beading class for the Embroiderer's Guild of America and then wrote and tested this correspondence class with a group of the guild's members. In July 2006, my first group began this class, and I now have seven groups in progress."

"My involvement with this group has increased my interest in teaching bead embroidery, and recently, a bead-embroidered purse of mine passed the first review for entry in the Bead Bag show that Interweave Press (Beadwork Magazine) will hold at Bead Expo this summer. I have sent the purse and should hear at the end of March if the purse will actually be in the show."
